Community Resources
GOBDF serves patients with factor deficient bleeding disorders in 52 Ohio counties. All patients must have their diagnosis confirmed by their HTC or healthcare team prior to being added to the database or receiving services.

We have a new and improved system of collecting membership information. Please make sure that every member in your household is listed. Thank you for helping to keep our records current! Also, while membership is free, you are still able to make a donation to the chapter if you wish. There is an option to donate at the end of the membership form.
Medical IDs
GOBDF provides emblems (bracelet, dog tag, necklace, seatbelt cover, etc.) for all members with a bleeding disorder* once per calendar year.
Wellness Programs
GOBDF offers wellness assistance up to $250 per person with a bleeding disorder*. For households with multiple patients, there is a household max of $400. Examples of initiatives funded include swimming lessons, yoga studio memberships, golf instruction, and dance lessons. We do not cover shoes, apparel, meals or supplements. Please provide all information necessary for us to pay the vendor. Failure to do so may result in a delay in approval and processing. Direct reimbursements are discouraged and cannot be guaranteed without prior approval from GOBDF staff. We also contract with a virtual yoga instructor who provides live and recorded sessions to the community at no charge to the patient.
Educational Scholarships
Educational scholarships are available to children and adults with a bleeding disorder*. Scholarships can be used for tuition, tutoring and books. There is a $500 limit per person, per year, with priority given to post-secondary students.
Checks will be made out directly to the educational institution.
Emergency Financial Assistance
GOBDF offers last resort financial assistance to members with bleeding disorders* for emergency expense needs directly related to their bleeding disorder. Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. All submissions must be submitted via your HTC social worker.
Counseling
Any member with a bleeding disorder*, or their caregiver living in the same home, is eligible to apply for up to $400 per calendar year to assist with the cost of deductibles and other out-of-pocket counseling expenses not covered by insurance. Those with special circumstances are encouraged to apply for additional funds if needed. Please provide all the information necessary for us to pay the vendor. Failure to do so may result in a delay in approval and processing. Direct reimbursements are discouraged and cannot be guaranteed without prior approval from GOBDF staff. Please contact your HTC social worker with any questions.
Camp Scholarships
GOBDF offers camp scholarships to children bleeding disorders*, 6-17 years old. Some camps offer siblings the opportunity to attend as well. GOBDF will assist with transportation when possible.

Dental Program
Families without access to dental coverage may be eligible for Delta Dental insurance through our Ohio Dental Program. The enrollment fee is $25 per person with a bleeding disorder* and $50 for additional family members in the household with a family maximum of $200. Enrollment is open year-round and will be provided based on available funding.

Conference Travel Scholarships
We are fortunate in our community to have many opportunities to connect and learn together with patients across the country at annual educational conferences like NBDF’s Bleeding Disorders and Rare Bleeding Disorders Conferences and HFA’s Symposium.
GOBDF offers educational participant scholarships for members with a qualifying bleeding disorder and their families, when applicable. Scholarship recipients will be determined through an equitable selection process conducted by a volunteer review team. Members must have an immediate family member affected with a bleeding disorder AND living in their household. Priority will be given to new families or families who have not received a scholarship in the past.
What the Scholarship Covers: This is a reimbursement scholarship with a maximum amount of up to $1,000 for an individual or $2,000 for a family.
- Funds may be used to cover the following:
- Airfare or mileage
- Hotel, for a maximum of three nights
- Registration Fee
- Airport Transportation
- Meals are not reimbursable, as most meals are sponsored at the conference

Travel Assistance
GOBDF offers travel assistance to and from HTC and dental appointments by way of reimbursement and ride share when needed. When participation is open to our members to attend regional trainings or educational meetings, members can be reimbursed for travel to those meetings at a rate of .22 per mile per IRS guidelines. Households are limited to $250 per year for eligible meetings and appointments.
